Reference Library lets you add optional proprietary content—such as patented processes, product catalogs, or compliance requirements—to your brand context. While Brand Strategy workshops capture your structured identity, Reference Library captures domain-specific details you can selectively apply in Halo Chat and Halo Studio.
Navigate to Reference Library from the sidebar under Strategy, or go to /brand/knowledge. The page uses the same full-width header band as other Sources & Decisions pages: title, subtitle, Learn More under the description, and an outline button to open Strategy.
If you have no snippets yet, the Reference Library page offers Start with Brand Voice Guide—open Halo Studio’s Brand Voice Guide, refine the output, then paste it here or use Add to Reference Library from the tool when available.
Where Reference Library Is Used
Reference Library is only used when you explicitly select it. If you don't select any snippets or presets, no Reference Library content is injected into AI prompts.
- Halo Chat: Use the Reference Library selector in the chat header to choose snippets or a preset. Your selection persists for that conversation.
- Halo Studio tools: Each tool has a Reference Library selector in the left panel. Pick snippets or a preset before generating — the selection applies to that run.
You can create presets on the Reference Library page — named groups of snippets — and quickly select them in Chat or any tool.
Blog Writer, Social Captions, Email Campaign Writer, Email Sequence Builder, Press Release, Website Copy, Content Repurposer
Ad Creative Builder, Campaign Builder, Content Calendar, Social Media Calendar
Tagline Generator, Headline Optimizer, Brand Voice Guide, Brand Story
Logo, Icon, Illustration, Pattern, Imagery, Color Palette, Typography, Video Generator, Photography Direction
Workshops and Decisions define approved strategy. Reference Library adds reusable specifics—your methodology, product specs, or compliance language—that you attach only when you select snippets in Chat or Studio. It does not automatically become Brand Intelligence.
In the Insight Library, approved (and actioned) insights include Save as reference. That saves a new snippet from the insight text so you can attach it only when you need it in Halo Chat or Halo Studio — it does not automatically join Brand Intelligence.
You can save more than once if you want different edits as separate snippets. A Reference Library badge on the card means at least one snippet was created from that insight.
Content Categories
When adding content, choose a category so it's organized and prioritized in AI prompts:
Proprietary processes or methodologies
Product details, service descriptions, catalog excerpts
How your brand works, your unique approach
Compliance requirements, legal language, disclaimers
General supplemental content that doesn't fit above
How to Add Content
Option 1: Paste
Open the Reference Library page and click the "Add" button.
In the Add modal, choose the "Paste" tab (default).
Give your content a clear title, select a category, and paste your text. Maximum 50,000 characters per entry.
Click Save to add the content to your Reference Library.
Option 2: Upload
Upload PDF, DOCX, or TXT files (max 10MB). Text is extracted server-side and added to Reference Library.
In the Add modal, switch to the "Upload" tab.
Select a PDF, DOCX, or TXT file from your computer. Drag-and-drop is also supported.
Edit the title (defaults to filename) and select a category.
Click Upload. The file's text will be extracted and stored in Reference Library.
Summary and Refine
On the Reference Library page, for longer snippets, use the Summarize or Refine icons on each card to create a prompt-ready condensed version. This improves AI context quality and fits within prompt limits.
- Summarize: Extracts key facts and constraints into a shorter form (often bullets or short paragraphs).
- Refine: Rewrites for clarity and prompt-friendliness while preserving essential information.
When a prompt-ready version exists, a badge appears on the card. The AI uses this condensed text instead of truncated full content.
View and Reorder
Use the View (eye) button on any card to read the complete content in a read-only modal.
Drag cards by the grip handle to change their order. Items higher in the list are prioritized when content exceeds the prompt cap.
Create presets to group multiple snippets. Select a preset in Halo Chat or Halo Studio tools for quick access.
Best Practices
Descriptive titles help you find and manage content
One topic per entry; split long documents into logical sections
Place most important content first for better retention in prompts
Edit or remove outdated content to keep AI outputs accurate
